Your First RMT Appointment

Assessment first. Treatment second.

Your first massage therapy appointment is generally booked for one hour. It includes time for health history, assessment, discussion of your needs and treatment. The amount of hands-on treatment time may therefore differ from a subsequent appointment of the same length.

01

History & goals

Your RMT will review your health history and ask what brings you in, what you would like help with and any relevant concerns.

02

Physical assessment

Assessment may include movement, observation, palpation and other clinically relevant checks before treatment begins.

03

Treatment

Your therapist will explain positioning and the proposed approach, and treatment will proceed with your comfort and consent in mind.

04

Follow-up & home care

At the end of the appointment, your RMT may recommend follow-up care and provide home-care or movement suggestions when appropriate.

Comfort, Draping & Consent

Your comfort comes first.

Massage therapy should feel respectful and collaborative. You are encouraged to communicate with your therapist throughout the appointment.

Clothing

You choose what feels comfortable.

You may remain fully clothed or disrobe only to the level you are personally comfortable with. Disrobing is not required for every treatment approach.

Draping

Privacy and modesty are maintained.

When draping is used, you remain covered except for the area being treated. Your boundaries and privacy are respected throughout the appointment.

Positioning

Treatment can be adapted.

You may be positioned face up, face down or on your side depending on the treatment plan and what is comfortable for you. Bodykneads also has tables that can accommodate later-stage pregnancy.

Communication

Speak up at any time.

Your therapist may check in about pressure, pain tolerance and general comfort. You can ask questions or request changes to positioning, pressure or the treatment approach at any time.
